Chapel of the Holy Name
This chapel situated in the south aisle
was originally a chantry chapel. The architecture is perpendicular 15th century. Note how the base of the column has no decoration as there would originally have been a screen there. On the left of the altar is a 'Hagioscope' which was designed to enable the priest or the server in the chantry chapel to see the ministrations at the High Altar so that the consecration at the masses did not coincide since several masses would be said at the same time by the monks of the Abbey. The Hagioscope (Greek for "Holy Peep") is somewhat later than the date of the chapel. To the right of the altar is a piscina and a sedila.
The roof is also 15th century
and retains the original colouring and carvings of emblems of the Four Evangelists and Our Lord's Passion.

The mural of the Ascension is by Hans Feibusch and dates from 1952.
